Disco Elysium is celebrated for its deep narrative choices and the meticulous exploration of the gritty district of Martinaise. While traversing the streets on foot allows you to absorb the incredible atmosphere, players eventually look for a quicker way to backtrack through previously cleared zones. The Final Cut edition of the game introduced a highly requested feature that lets players move swiftly between major hubs once specific prerequisites are met.

Acquiring the Vital Map Item

Before you can attempt to teleport around the city, your detective must get their hands on a physical map. This item is sold at Plaisance's bookstore, which is located directly west of the Whirling-in-Rags hostel. You can head upstairs to the back alcove, interact with the maps on the wall, and purchase it from the shopkeeper for a mere ninety cents. Alternatively, players with a high Interfacing skill can try a risky check to steal the document without spending any money.

Reaching the Day Three Milestone

Even with the document resting in your inventory, the fast travel system will remain completely locked during the initial stages of your investigation. The game naturally limits your movement until the water lock near the harbor is repaired, which automatically takes place on Day Three. Crossing this newly opened bridge gives you access to the broader coastline and allows you to visit the final transit nodes. Once you physically walk to these landmarks at least once, the quick travel system activates permanently.

Mastering the Clunky Travel Rules

Unlike conventional modern role-playing games, you cannot simply open your map from any random location and teleport instantly. Disco Elysium forces you to stand directly at one of the three designated waypoints to jump to another one. These three safe zones are located right next to Kim's car at the Martinaise Waterfront, directly outside the Fisherman's Shacks, and right in front of the old church. If you open your journal and click the map tab while standing in these exact spots, the game will present the option to instantly travel.

Navigating Platform Specific Controls

Activating the travel sequence can feel slightly unintuitive depending on the gaming system you are using to play the title. Computer users can simply hit the M key and use their mouse to click on the desired destination marker on screen. Players navigating the district on modern consoles like the PlayStation 5 need to access the journal, press the bumper buttons to view the map, and shift the cursor using the directional pad. Taking the time to learn these distinct UI configurations will save you an immense amount of time during the late-game cleaning phase.
